Fish tank table
Principle design
Creating the table for the fish tank posed a unique challenge, requiring a custom piece with specialized structural capacity to support a substantial load exceeding 1.2 tons. Additionally, careful consideration was given to ensure that the design seamlessly complemented the materiality of the surrounding property, harmonizing with its architectural aesthetic.
In crafting this bespoke item, the primary focus was on identifying the right manufacturers capable of meeting the demands of the project. Finding partners with the expertise and craftsmanship to tackle such a challenge was paramount to the success of the design.
Through meticulous planning and collaboration with skilled artisans, we achieved a solution that not only met the functional requirements of supporting the fish tank but also integrated seamlessly with the surrounding environment. The resulting table stands as a testament to innovative design and expert craftsmanship, enhancing both the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the space.
Finishes
For the tabletop, concrete was chosen as the primary material to harmonize with the polished concrete floor, ensuring a cohesive aesthetic throughout the space. To meet the structural demands of supporting the substantial load of the fish tank, the concrete tabletop was specifically reinforced and meticulously colour-matched. The casting process involved utilizing bespoke steel shuttering to minimize irregularities, with extensive polishing resulting in a flawless “mirror” finish surface.
The framework forming the legs was constructed from structural 70 x 70 box sections, intricately welded together to ensure stability and strength. Powder coating was applied to match the industrial finish used elsewhere in the property. To further support the weight of the tank, the frame was designed by a structural engineer, incorporating fins and a 10mm steel plate, also powder coated for durability and visual cohesion.
Behind the tank, a feature wall was created using specialist ceramic tiles boasting a black mottled effect, framing the tank as the central focal point of the space. Specialist lighting was strategically installed to illuminate the tank, highlighting its aquatic inhabitants, and enhancing its visual impact. The end result is a striking feature piece, meticulously crafted to seamlessly integrate with the surrounding context, elevating the entire space with its bespoke design and unparalleled craftsmanship.
