The layout of the penthouse in Bermondsey presented an exciting opportunity to integrate bespoke joinery, maximizing the length of the open-plan space while unifying the various areas with a cohesive material palette. With the apartment’s open-plan nature encompassing the entrance space, lounge area, and core, it was crucial to define these zones using lighting and bespoke joinery to maintain consistency in the material palette.

Bespoke cabinets were meticulously designed, opting for a low-level carcass to steer clear of a kitchen-like aesthetic. The interior of these units transitions seamlessly between functions, serving as a media and AV unit, a drinks cabinet, and finally, entrance storage. Positioned centrally along the elevation, a custom fireplace was crafted to serve as a focal point, drawing the eye to the heart of the apartment.

To circumvent the need for a traditional flue, a bioethanol fire was ingeniously incorporated into a bespoke surround clad in ceramic tiles. This choice not only pays homage to the industrial heritage of the apartment and its surroundings but also adds a touch of contemporary elegance to the space.

Through thoughtful design and meticulous craftsmanship, the bespoke joinery not only enhances the functionality of the penthouse but also elevates its aesthetic appeal, creating a harmonious and inviting environment that reflects the unique character of its surroundings.
